The best mashed potato starts from cold water...

Did you know vegetables grown beneath the earth, not just potatoes, are best cooked starting in the pot with the cold water that is then brought to the boil? While those that grow above ground are best popped into the pot with the water already boiling.

A tastier alternative though is to steam all of your vegetables, except tuber vegetables, as they retain more of their colour, flavour and texture as well as nutrient content.

So next time you're having mashed potato with dinner, try it this way.
